Google seems to be in the mood of revamping its Google Shopping results display, and the good news is that this measure undertaken by Google is welcomed by SEOs. In the process of modifying its shopping display, Google has switched to a paid model and also been trying several user interfaces as testing grounds. The bad news for the merchants of Google shopping is that they would not be getting the preferential treatment they were receiving previously. So as to say, all the core organic listings would be pushed down, without display of mixed organic results. The listings now would be placed on the top right of the Google shopping display.

The fact that organic listings now remain devoid of other databases, is keeping the SEOs happy enough. To accompany them rejoicing the recent Google move pertaining to Google shopping are the merchants who were not receiving good ranking for their listings in the Google Shopping results. Moreover, Google plans to move ahead from the previous free product search engine, to an paid one. Apart from a supposed name change to be rendered to its shopping model, the fact that the site is going to be strategized on a paid model is lucrative enough for most merchants as well as the SEOs.

Google Shopping has come along way, at least in context of it getting its current branded name. Previously, the model was conceptualized under the name Froogle, which then got converted to Google Base. Later, the name got transformed to Google merchants and Google Product Search respectively. Google Shopping is the name it has lately received and I presume that this would be for keeps.

Some reactions from Webmaster World and Cre8asite Forums has been a mixed bag of reactions. Some accept the change with open arms, while the others question its success quotient. It is up to the Google developers and the Development Team, on the whole, to assess the strength of the supposed business model in defining Google Shopping. Getting it transformed into a paid model is fine, but would they be able to reason out every penny charged to its clients? Also, whether Google will have an realistic approach of assessing the business model, is something many of the merchants and Google competition ponder upon. As per Google, they have shot down many of the competing affiliate sites. But does this reason out the pay strategy it has proposed to take? It is for time to speak the truth now.
